An interesting fact has recently been discovered in Europe about the origins or purpose of tatoos. The "Ice man" a.k.a "Ozzy", discovered into a glacier of the ustrian Alps was tattoed with a series of simple (crude?) symbols on some of its joints. Upon medical/legal examination of its remains by mean of medical imagery it was discovered that the man was sufferring frm arthitis / arthrosis ( I don't remember weel enough). It has been suggested that these were medical tatoos.
I recommand you google "ozzy" iceman. you can actually see the man, its body is very well preserved, the tatoos can be seen even today. The man is old, dating back to 6000 thousand years or so, "copper age or era"

Very interesting article, on a topic that is too often the subject of false knowledge or misrepresentation<br

Here in Thailand many men have traditional (Buddhist) symbols tattooed on their backs, just below the neck. These can be incantations to protect the person from anything from bad luck to bullets and are applied by monks using (bamboo?) needles. They may artistically speaking not as beautiful or as fancy as the Japanese tattoos but are interesting nonetheless.

Great article.
